Yep, been there.  Although I've been able to manually stop the SPOOLSS
service, hack the registry, reboot, and get rid of a printer.

Anyway - short answer: DO NOT USE USB PRINTING IN WINDOWS.  Seriously.
It is a nightware if it blows up.  Get a network attached printer
[ethernet jack, not wireless] and just print all day long.
