I did misunderstand that you meant the whole folder. Thanks for the
clarification.
I just dvdbackup'd a disc and checked the contents more closely. The
VOB files *are* separated by episode, though each episode spans more
than one VOB. For example, here's a bit of the directory listing.
1.2M Mar 9 19:52 VTS_06_0.VOB
1.0G Mar 9 19:58 VTS_06_1.VOB this
632M Mar 9 20:01 VTS_06_2.VOB and this are one episode
42K Mar 9 20:01 VTS_07_0.BUP
42K Mar 9 20:01 VTS_07_0.IFO
1.2M Mar 9 20:01 VTS_07_0.VOB this
1.0G Mar 9 20:05 VTS_07_1.VOB and this are another
632M Mar 9 20:07 VTS_07_2.VOB
34K Mar 9 20:07 VTS_08_0.BUP
34K Mar 9 20:07 VTS_08_0.IFO
1014M Mar 9 20:10 VTS_08_1.VOB but this one is not;
42K Mar 9 20:10 VTS_09_0.BUP it's a special feature
42K Mar 9 20:10 VTS_09_0.IFO
I cat'ed VTS_06_1.VOB and VTS_06_2.VOB into new.vob. vlc plays this
file *and* includes the various audio tracks, thus preserving the
commentary. In addition, there is zero loss of video and/or audio
quality. :-)
