[GRLUG] Testing Comcast vs AT&T

When I download a 600MB version
of Kubuntu, there is no place to hide.
I know the size of the file, and I know
how long it takes to download. This
washes out any short term boost.
The power boost is indeed a gimmick,
but it. does move short files quickly. It
seems valuable even though it doesn't
apply after a period of time. For those
servers that can handle it anyway.
The bigger issue with speed is probably
server congestion. When I test rates
using speedtest.net I get consistent
results over a wide area - presumably
those tightly connected to Comcast's
backbone. But this means little if a
server is trying to catch its breath.
So one's "bandwidth" is no doubt a
measure of speed under best conditions.
