[GRLUG] usb stuff

I have a sansa clip that works great in linux.  Every now and again 
though, plugging in USB things seems to not be noticed, or only half 
noticed by my system.

For example, my clip is usually loaded at /dev/sdb when I plug it in.  At 
the moment, it doesn't get anything at all in /dev/.  However, lsusb lists 
it just fine.

What might be broken, and what should I restart to get it back?
