[GRLUG] windoz - NOT LINUX

A friend had a new DVD unit installed
in her Gateway laptop - it's running
windoz XP.  The unit played DVD movies
before the change.  Now an error message
to the effect "needs DVD reader" - or possibly
"needs DVD decoder" comes up.

I would have thought the DVD unit would
have a generic interface.  I don't know what
model unit it is.

Based on just this much, any suggestions?
A driver came to mind, but again, why wouldn't
one drive work with all standard drives?
