Telnet-access BBS games were my favorite way to get around school "no
games in the lab" policies. And there's the bsdgames package on
Linux, among others.

All versions of Windows since -- at latest -- 3.11 have shipped with a
telnet client that I *believe* supports VT100 emulation.
However, since my endeavor to enable it, my Vista workstation has been
sitting here for most of the past hour saying "Please wait while the
features are configured. This might take several minutes."
