Ok. Sorry to keep replying... just had to satisfy my curiosity.
With a 10,000 page duty cycle, at 20ppm, that's 8 hours, 20 minutes of
solid printing. Assuming Brother's average figure of 450W when printing
is correct (it's at least in the ballpark), that's 3.75 kWh. Plus the
other 29 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes @ 5W (3.558 kWh), that's a grand
total of 7.308 kWh / month, or $0.66 @ $0.09 / kWh. For one 2 hour, 20
minute session of running the kill-a-watt, including some printing, it
calculated a .03 kWh usage. That works out to about 9.25 kWh over a
month's time. Same same. Fudge for the standby time and figure it
costs you a buck a month to run.
My IIISi pulls 41W at standby - no sleep mode, and a steady 800W when
printing (with an occasional 80W blip for 2 or 3 seconds). So...
10,000 pages (not fair - the IIISi can do 50,000) @ 17ppm = 9 hours, 50
minutes @ 700W average = 6.86 kWh + 29.1 kWh (the rest of the month @
41W) = 35.96 kWh * $0.09 / kWh = $3.24 / month
Over a year, that's a savings of about $27. Nothing amazing, but I'm
not disappointed. It also helps that, because of the higher resolution
and networking capabilities of the brother machine, I was able to
replace my IIISi _and_ my 6MP. Assuming all other costs equal (hah, big
assumption), the brother machine should pay for itself after the first
year on electricity savings alone.
