An organized walk-through of a Gentoo installation / build is something
I would make an effort to attend.

I have no intention of actually using that pointless abomination, but I
also have not a doubt that the process is illuminating.    Knowing more
about build tools is never a bad thing - that magick is always there,
swirling about underneath, regardless of how deeply obscured.
