Had a similar problem with 11.04 -> 11.10 & Reaktek driver - in this case,
it would refuse to connect to an unsecure AP after connecting to a secure
AP; only a reboot would allow a connection.

Exactly the situation I had - any chance you were switching from secure to
unsecure also?
