Total BS, unfortunately. The only knowledge requirement is passing
familiarity with the various distros, just match the version number:

For example:

12.1 can only be SuSE (single digit)
11.10 can only be Ubuntu (two digits, 04 or 10)
6.0 can only be Debian (some slight overlaps with CentOS)
5.5 can only be CentOS (odd numbers)
11 - 14 can only be Fedora
