wait.. putty IS ssh..

if you havent set a root password. use telnet.

once you set a root pasword. telnet is disabled and you can ssh

if you can get a command line on it, and it has internet access, you
can use opkg to update the package lists, and the install nano.

I have damn near a whole fleet of wrt54g's in service running openwrt,
so if you want some individual help with this let me know.

What router/device is this? What version of openwrt?
