You could do that too. I'm not too concerned with data mining off these servers as they were mostly dumb compute nodes, so a simple format / reinstall would be sufficient for me.  Just as long as my old OS is gone before the servers leave (Caseys) Warehouse.

Why not just boot from a livecd and do .. 

dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sd(x)
