[GRLUG] on a PowerBook G4

A friend was recently given a PowerBook G4. Firefox is at 3.6 on there,
and Safari is equally old. We can't update the OS both technologically
and financially, so I'm looking to put Linux on there.

I know practically nothing about PowerBooks. I know it's old, and I don't
think it has an intel proc. I'm guessing I'll need a light desktop like
XFCE.

What are my options for distro? I suspect Debian, but that's always been
a painful process for me. Would xubuntu be light enough? Or is the cruft
going to bog it down?

I don't necessarily want to get too crazy on distro, I'd like to be
relatively familiar with it. I know debian based systems pretty well, and
redhat based systems, and I know Arch pretty well.
