Haven't looked into it myself, but I can tell you what I've observed
about their protocol. It annoys me wrt local network management. They
should have used DNS-SD; I could have integrated that into my
router...

I'll ask around on Google+, though; it's plausible someone's started
work on an OSS stack for implementing Dropbox-like service. Backing it
against your own cloud and provided value-added services and
functionality would be reasonable...especially if it included an
appliance box located on the customer's own network.
