I don't think you'll need more than 1.5gb ram.

I'm using Win7 64 in vmware workstation for testing browsers too. 
Granted the virtualization platform is different. For kicks I even tried 
hulu. On a 2 year old dual core, its smooth with another 1gb ram debian 
vm running (and being used) same time. VM's are on a second drive and 
the host has plenty of memory.

I know this doesn't help with vbox but I don't think its a win7 or 
memory allocation issue.
