[GRLUG] Hypothetical DOCSIS networking questions

Do you know anyone who's ever tried setting up their own DOCSIS loop?

If you don't have cable services from a local cable provider, but your
home is already wired for cable, it might be a quick way to get a
gigabit trunk line running through your house. (This is assuming you
don't already have a good wired Ethernet setup going) (Also, it's
worth noting that DOCSIS 3.0 supports gigabit speeds on the loop)

Also, what frequencies does DOCSIS operate at? Could it be configured
to sit within an ISM band? If so, one could conceivably combine it
with a directional antenna for a point-to-point link.
