[GRLUG] Experienced in nginx configuration on a production server ?

Unless you are already decided you might want to look at lighttpd - it's
much easier to configure for what you are doing and more stable.
Php Fast-FPM + Nginx is probably the best alternative next to that - not
sure about the ROR support.
