I'll second the Palm Pre / webOS recommendation. They all come with
real linux, super easy to develop apps for, and full root access right
out of the box!
If you *just* want a PDA, and dont want to use the phone portion or
dont want to pay for service, you can sometimes buy the CDMA first gen
Palm Pre's used and unlocked for only about $150. Theres a one-tap
menu to turn the cell radio off, and Without the service, it's
essentially identical to an iPod Touch.
