A look at the limits of twisted pair.
The top curve is the Shannon limit:
bps assuming no noise on the line.
The bottom curve is the limit assuming
a 10^-6 bit error rate. It shows the
well known 18,000 foot limit for DSL
using just twisted pair.
But for a 50 foot drop to a house, the
limit might be quite high.
Coax and fiber are vastly better.
