[GRLUG] NOT LINUX - local ISPs

Anyone ever hear about what happened
to the GR initiative to provide wireless all
over the city?  There was some fanfare
3 or so years ago.  A contract was supposedly
let out to some company.  But then all went
silent, with the usual lack of fanfare.

I presume the effort is dead, but does anyone
know anything specific about the situation?

On another front,  Comcast now has about
15M data customers.  So is it more likely now
to sit on the situation, as in a monopoly, or
to provide some new and wonderful things,
like something akin to FiOS?  It supposedly
has some new tier services in the wings to
roll out in this area now, but I haven't heard
anything yet in my end of town.
