[GRLUG] The Geek Group

I wondered what had happened to them! I went to a Geek Group open house
quite a few years ago, and it was very impressive. Wardriving wifi
vehicle that was also an electric or hybrid, a radar detector hacked
into mapping the location of the walls, an electrostatic beverage can
crusher, a giant Jacob's ladder, and my favorite: Gemini. Gemini was a
matched pair of Tesla coils maybe 7 feet tall that threw arks at least
10 feet between them! While Geek Group might have been mostly a bunch of
electricians having fun, I completely believe their claim that they
educate the general public and should be given all courtesy as a
non-profit. It's Kalamazoo's loss that they don't feel the same way.

Interestingly, when the Kalamazoo Linux Users Group lost their
arrangement with the Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce for meeting and
server space a couple of years ago, the Geek Group offered the use of
their facilities indefinitely. I never made it to a meeting there, but I
think the problem was that their space was more warehouse than meeting
room and not a very good location. KLUG was in pretty bad shape by then
anyway, unfortunately.
