[GRLUG] windoz - NOT LINUX

AFAIK, DVDs and BDs both use the same base generic interface
established with CDs as the proprietary CD controller card era was
fading. DVD functionality would come as an extension of that
interface, as would BDs.

So any BD drive should function as a CD drive when reading CDs, and as
a DVD drive when reading DVDs.

The reason I asked for the clarification was out of concern that that
your friend might actually be trying to read Blu-Ray discs in her new
drive. If she's reading DVDs or CDs in a DVD or BD drive, all should
be as though she were doing it in a new DVD drive. If she's reading
BDs in a new drive, then additional software concerns come into play.
(If she's trying to read BDs in a DVD drive, it Just Won't Work, but
if it happens to be a BD drive, then installing the right player
software should do the trick.)

It seems like a silly clarification given your stated question, but
considering my grandmother still calls DVDs "CDs", I thought it wise
to check...
