It seems like something like the QuickBooks Web Connector might work for 
this. Then the open source program could communicate with QuickBooks via 
XML. Unforunately getting data into Quickbooks sucks any way you cut it. 
The specifications could change with every version (but probably only a 
little bit). But the web connector or the SDK is about the only way to 
safely do it. I'm not so sure you could use the SDK in an open source 
program though.
