I have two ideas.  Is autofs running?  `/etc/init.d/autofs start'

Have you defined the automaps?  When starting autofs, do you get a
message similar to:

rondo:~# /etc/init.d/autofs start
Starting automounter: no automount maps defined.
rondo:~# 

?
