So, exactly you know shouldn't be using Linux then. Debian *IS* the
source for many distribution package relating to authentication, fixes
to X, Kernel Enhancements, multiple MTAs being fixed, Apache using a
modular approach on configs... just to name a few.

Ignoring Debian, is like ignore the plague. (and yes I used that example
for a reason)
