The the alignment on the drives
does go out,  albeit uncommonly.
Given the cost,  just replacing the
unit does make most sense.  It's
not worth the hassles to keep them
around, and that can include losing
inter unit operability.  Things made
on the misaligned drive will play on
it, but the overall consequences are
clear.
