I don't think that's the exact error message.  Typically, a stack
trace of the commands in execution will be prepended to the error
message.

Specifically, "Argument list too long" looks like "bash:tar:Argument
list too long"

Is that the case here, or is "Argument list too long" the only thing
on the line?
