Trying not to do what?  Erase the profile, or reinstall the package?
Reinstalling the package won't affect your personal settings at all.
Erasing the profile will.

If you really want to get down and dirty, you can try running firefox
from the command line.  That way, you'll see exactly what causes the
crash.  But it may or may not mean anything to you or any of us.
