When configuring the kernel, you can choose whether to access the PCI
bus directly or through BIOS.  Also, should you fail to enable USB
keyboard support, BIOS can save the day by converting the USB keyboard
data to appear as though it were coming from an AT keyboard.

My thought on homing functionality assumed that the packet would be
sent during the bootup process, if a connection (i.e. wired ethernet)
was available.
