But that's not applicable here. What's needed is for the a character
device to be created that emulates a serial connection with a
Hayes-compatible modem. (For the AT instruction set.) For winmodems,
that's done with a driver.
I prefer serial modems, though, since they're usually Hayes-compatible
to begin with, and no device emulation is needed. I've got a spare
56k serial modem, if anyone's interested.
