[GRLUG] Data wiping / recovery / paranoia

shred does more than fill the drive with zeros...It overwrites the
data multiple times, with data designed to remove latent magnetic
fields on drives using various (obsolete) low-level drive formats.

It still works better than, say, "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda", though.
