Ha! Now you have started the fire...or at least lit the match, and now
im starting it...lol :)
"KDE is for folks who like their OS to hold their hand."
This is a fallacy - KDE is for those users who want quick, easy access
to their files so that they can spend more time actually working on
whatever they are working on instead of going through 800 windows and
menus (or the complete lack thereof) or through *cough*spatial
browsing*cough* to find what they are looking for...
Also, KDE applications IMHO are just plain superior and faster than
applications created for Gnome...take Amarok for example, it beats the
crap out of anything Gnome has to offer...oh, and did you see the recent
project that is basically Gnome's attempt to clone Amarok? (lol) Another
excellent applications is K3B...I have saw NOTHING in Gnome that even
begins to compare...I also do a lot of work using Konsole...I also find
Konsole far more appealing than the "Terminal" emulator gnome uses by
default...
Also, claiming that Gnome has a "nicer" interface, is not true. Gnome
reminds me of Windows 3.1...its bulky, ugly, and slow...no matter what
themes or modifications you use...:)
I also like that KDE is IMHO far more customizable than
Guu..uu..nome...which basically decides everything for you excluding
your wallpaper....(I know that Gnome *can* be customized...but, its time
consuming and laborsome compared to KDE)
Sorry about perpetuating the flame war....but, the "KDE is for users who
like their OS to hold their hand" comment was...well...cause enough for
a response...
My direct response is that "Gnome is for people who don't have a mind of
their own, and want their OS's Window Manager to decide everything for
them. Maybe people use Gnome because their minds work as slow and clunky
as their window manager....lol :)"
