What radeon card do you have and what driver version are you trying to run?

The latest fglrx drivers aren't supported for cards older then ati cards
8500 or earlier.

Does glxinfo give any good output? Try setting the environment var
"LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo" and then running glxinfo ifo not.

Could you post your xorg log file?
