[GRLUG] jabber question

I have a jabber server running on my Dreamhost account.  I do not have
root access to the server.  I am able to communicate with my wife who
is on the same jabber server but I am not able to communicate with
friends who are on different jabber servers.  I get server errors.
Dreamhost tech support tells me the server is running fine.  (I am not
sure how they can say that...)  I was able to chat with other jabber
servers and now am not able to do so.  Any ideas what may be the
problem?  Since I do not have root access, there is little I can do.
Good thing this is not mission critical...
