I use firefox on Gentoo and Google maps work great.
Consider compiling from source instead of binary. Or checki your plugin
configuration.

Also, the key can be mapped in your Xorg file. However this settin would be
global, so when you hit <ALT>+<r> the OS will respond as if you had hit
<ALT>+<F2> for better or worse. Stick with the Linux though.
