I'd hate to lose one of Adam's caliber. He regularly makes very
knowledgeable comments and, for me, is a valuable member of this
community.

This happened a few years back where we lost a very smart, yet rather
intolerant, member because of a top post vs bottom post debate.
(notice I bottom posted this :) )

Side note #1: Maybe superior intelligence has a side effect of
intolerance of others stupidity, or perceived stupidity? Maybe that
is why I am so tolerant of what comes across. :)

Adam does have a good point. Keeping the topic at hand to the forum
topic could lead to more domain experts monitoring the discussions.

Side note #2: Network neutrality is close to the topic of the forum.
Network neutrality effects all tech, Linux being one.

Share and Enjoy

I thought it was rather amusing to read the 'GRLUG Site' thread extolling the virtues of a community managed (more or less) group, followed shortly by a flamewar on off-topic posts. Like it or not community forums are going to suffer the same consequences as free speech. i.e. Someone IS going to say something completely off the point, disagreeable, or downright dumb. I don't think that means we need to outlaw off-topic posts, I think the occasional community backlash such as this is the control. Ugly maybe, but necessary.
So.. let's try to be more considerate of people who want the topic to remain on topic, since this is after all what they signed up for.
-Bill
