Windows requires credentials to use remote desktop, they could be stored in your remote desktop program's configuration, and therefore they wont be shown on log in most the time.<br><br>Windows will also store the domain (or computer name), so if you log into several different machines it is possible that it is trying to put the domain name (computer name) in automatically and therefore, failing because it is trying to use the name from the other computer.<br>
<br>That paragraph might have been confusing, so I'll try to sum it up... Username, Password, and domain are all required (if there is no domain then use the remote computer's name) for RDP to connect. Newer servers, and Windows vista/7 tend to hide this information so typically you just do "other user" then "remote-computer-name\username" for your username. <br>
<br>Check your RDP program's settings and make sure there is no stored credentials.<br><br>Windows Server 2008 made it really, really annoying to RDP if you have more than 1 domain because you have to type it in every time, no more drop down menu like the old server.<br>

And based on my experience with remote desktop I don't know why the<br>
"Windows security: enter your credentials" dialog even comes up. It only<br>
seems to come up in this case, after I've VPN'd into the office. It<br>
doesn't come up when I remote desktop to other computers at home and it<br>
doesn't come up when I access remote computers that have public IP<br>
