I can tell you what happened to the Grand Rapids WiFi initiative; the company that was going to provide it was bought by Sprint and ended up in lawsuits with the company that had exclusive rights to sell Sprint services in West Michigan. At this point, with cellular data plans as common as they are, the appeal of this program has been greatly diminished.<br>
<br>As for the Google fiber initiative, that hasn't been decided yet. Google put out a "request for information" that allows cities to lobby for inclusion in their Google Fiber for Communities project. No communities have been selected yet.<br>

Interesting. There was some chatter<div>two years ago or so about GR putting</div><div>up a wireless system - about 1.5Mbps</div><div>down, and 256Kbps up. Hopelessly</div><div>out of date even out of the gate.</div><div>
<br></div><div>Verizon: "<span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">Mar 24, 2011 WSJ reports 12.6 Mbps down & 4.7 Mbps up, fastest in industry."</span></div>

<div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">consider GR for a 1Gbps service. Pretty</span></font></div><div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">clearly, it has lost interest in that.</span></font></div>

<div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">something....... :-( With MI being </span></font></div><div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">dead last, second to the bottom, economically,</span></font></div>
<div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">and losing population, don't look for Comcast</span></font></div><div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">or others to stumble over themselves offering</span></font></div>
<div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;">more bandwidth in GR.</span></font></div><div><font face="Helvetica"><span style="border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 12px;"><br>

My guess would be none, unless enough complain.<br>
<br>
I see Holland MI is on the list in the ARS article, though they only<br>
seem to offer to business and locals like schools.<br>
