<br>Anyone using one of these, or its predecessor,<br>the 900? Consumers Report tested 6 netbooks,<br>shown in its June, 2009 issue, and doesn't seem<br>impressed with any of them. But one reviewer<br>on Amazon said he installed the Eee PC distribution<br>
of Linux, customised for this series of machines,<br>and even with the "Atom" CPU the thing flies.<br>So CR is not impressed, but many Linux enthusiasts<br>are. Anyone here have one? If so, what are your<br>experiences? One thing that always comes up is<br>
the small, crummy keyboard. <br><br>I also note there is a new Eee PC model with a <br>Celeron processor which is about $50 cheaper <br>yet. Whether the battery life is as good, one of<br>the goals of the machines, is not clear.<br>
<br>Anyway, the game here seems to be yet cheaper<br>machines. The screens are small, so the machine<br>shouldn't cost much more than a DVD player with<br>a similar size screen.<br><br>I've been running Puppy Linux on a rather large<br>
desktop, with 4GB of RAM and just 1GB of flash.<br>And no hard drive. It is essentially a BIG netbook. <br>But one gets the idea of how fast the machine <br>comes up, and runs. Those features in a small,<br>affordable box has appeal. Puppy does 95% of <br>
what I do with my machine daily, handeles a wide<br>variety of hardware, and yet the distribution is <br>about 100MB out of the box. <br><br>I'm sure netbooks are only in their early phase,<br>and could get much cheaper and more capable<br>
