<p><DEFANGED_div>I use NFS and and find it to be just as fast as any other method. Also, applications like Openoffice, which don't support writing to a remote share|drive see it as a local file system. But if you don't want to mount this share everytime, try looking into the *fish* KIO slave. It uses scp so it's a bit more secure if your data is on the sensitive side. Though I'm sure you could mount NFS through a secure tunnel if need be.
