I <i>am</i> interested in per-user instances.<br>
I use UltraVNC on all of my machines (~50) and have never seen any
option related to running a specific application on connect. Is this a
config option on the Linux server side?<br>

Instead of using a full xinitrc, you can have it run the specific
application you want.
Are you looking for per-user instances, or a shared instance? If
you're looking for per-user instances, you'll want to look at running
the vnc server from inetd.

There are some very nice desktop apps available.
I know of NoMachineNX. But it's a little pricey at $1500.
I'm not sure LTSP is corporate ready or not.
