Message-ID: So i've been trying to set up a canon pixma m620 up with my desktop, which runs ubuntu 12.04. I set up CUPS per http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/194. I was able to hook the printer up to the network by myself/with google's help. But i cannot get the desktop to print a test page. Eventually i would like it to be wireless, but wired would be fine for now, i can access etsy/paypal via the desktop to print shipping labels. If anyone has ideas, or wants to come fiddle with it in person, weds/fri are my days off and i'd be happy to make you a pan of brownies in return for fixing. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Do you mean Pixma MP620? I couldnt find a record of an M620. If so, this is discouraging: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Canon/Canon-PIXMA_MP620 However, that information might be out of date. Check these pages: http://askubuntu.com/questions/320800/how-to-install-canon-pixma-mp620 http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp610linux/ If you aren't able to get it working, I'd be happy to come by, but scheduling might be difficult. Ordinarily I could come by any weekday morning but Friday, but this coming morning I have something else scheduled. I might have a VERY little bit of time Friday afternoon. Note that the printer does not need to be connected wirelessly for you to print to it from a laptop or other device that is itself connected via wifi, unless the printer needs to be moved around, or setup somewhere it is not possible to connect it via wired ethernet. As long as the printer and the computer you want to print from are connected to the same router.. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Well, "secondhand" isn't as relevant as "laser" rather than "inkjet". If you do any notable volume on an inkjet, you'll tear through very expensive ink cartridges like crazy, whereas a laser can do several thousands of pages one one toner fill. Toner also doesn't dry out. Obviously a basic laser will only be black&white, but that shouldn't matter for shipping labels.
