I want to thank you so much for that. I don't remember letting you know the outcome. It just so happens that the AP's were hooked up to some cisco routers and these routers were setup to only allow 10 ip addresses per port. I changed this setting and all wireless devices now have valid ip addresses. Again, thank you all for the help. Message-ID: So, the weekly social is in a different place this week. It's outside! And the time has bumped back, it's now going to be 6-8PM instead of 5-7PM. Going to try to keep that pattern as long as weather permits. We'll probably start hosting at VI again when it gets cold. Also, a long, long time ago, there was discussion about rotating the meeting locations for GRLUG so that it could hit different areas of the city; we have people who never show unless we're down by Byron Center. We have people who never show unless we're in Grandville. We have people who show up here in Easttown. And I know there's a guy up in Greenville who'd show more often if we were closer. (Reason for moving the meeting location, at the moment, is it's become difficult to contain my kids' messiness. So in the interests of being able to have the whole family present...) Time: 6PM-9PM Fridays, every week unless cancelled Location: Highland Park. Google has the location wrong; here's a map point. https://goo.gl/maps/g5Tre Commute: If you're driving, that map point shows where the entrance is, at Frontage & Grand Ave. If you're walking or taking the bus, then you can easily get to Highland Park from College Ave. Food: Bring your own. Entry: It's a public park. Parking entrance is at the map point. Pedestrian entrance is anywhere there's a street. See the map. Power and Internet: I don't know. I doubt there will be accessible outlets turned on and available for our use; if the city parks department is doing its job, those will be turned off unless facilities are reserved, and I haven't reserved them. As for Internet, we'll see. Maybe someone will have a phone hotspot they'll share. Be courteous and don't download software updates... Get off at the apartment building immediately north of the freeway, then immediately north of the railroad tracks there is a path [east] which descends into the park. RAPID#13 or RAPID#19 get of at the old [now defunct] Kent Novelty shop on Grand Ave. Walk north, the street swings away, but there is a wide path [west] along the railroad tracks, under the freeway, that leads to the park [less than a block]. > Power and Internet: I don't know. No, on both counts AFAIK. These things may be future amenities, there is a contractor currently working in the park. > I doubt there will be accessible outlets turned on and available for > our use; if the city parks department is doing its job, those will be > turned off unless facilities are reserved, and I haven't reserved > them. I ran Arch for a while and loved it. Lots of excellence in it, but also lots of maintenance. I hated the constant system maintenance (frequent updates). I ran Debian Testing and then Sid for many, many years before Arch (I switched to Arch in part for its support of Enlightenment). Too much of a daily grind for me. I'm now running openSUSE and love it. Its CUPS implementation is superior to both Debian and Arch. For some reason in both Debian and Arch and Ubuntu printing PDFs to HP printers is a nightmare. Pages take forever to begin printing (on the order of five to ten minutes sometimes) and then only print a page or so every couple minutes. On openSUSE PDFs print as expected. Bottom line: it just works. That's what I love about Linux. Okay, enough rambling. -- john-thomas ----- The truth is that every morning war is declared afresh. And the men who wish to continue it are as guilty as the men who began it, more guilty perhaps, for the latter perhaps did not foresee all its horrors. In response to Ubuntu's silly "LINUX for humans" I wanted openSUSE's to be "LINUX for humans who need to get work done".
