I agree on the monitor.

On that specific computer:

The integrated video chip might not be wired up to be dual-link DVI. It 
doubles the data that can be sent to the monitor, and it's required to 
run that display at native resolution with DVI. I think you might need 
to add a dedicated graphics card if you have a slot for it..
