[GRLUG] gnome 3 screen freeze

I just had gnome 3 freeze up on me when using gedit (trying to drag an
open file to a new window). I couldn't figure any way to shut down gedit
and unfreeze the system short of a forced shutdown of the entire box.

What else can one do in this case?
