[GRLUG] Shared to VPS questions

I'm helping a friend out with their website (boardgame and comic book
convention) and am starting to research VPS's. Right now I have the
website, which is written in drupal, on my Dreamhost shared hosting plan.
The speed of the site does leave something to be desired, the developer
managed to tweak it a bit and speed things up but if they are correct
things are going to heat up and I don't know if this site could stay on the
shared plan.

What VPS's are out there that are a reasonable price. Next year is the
first year of the convention so right now money is tight. The Dreamhost
VPS looks good, compared to host gator and Slicehost.

I also looked up Amazon Web Services. There seems to be a free option that
looks pretty good. http://aws.amazon.com/free/ Is AWS
somewhat equivalent to a vps? Is this something I should research more?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Share and Enjoy
Ben
