You _could_ forgo the RTC and just send it commands over ethernet from a
schedule run via cron or something, but you originally mentioned having it
run autonomously, but being able to 'kick' the bell by sending a command
over ethernet; the ethernet shield for the arduino gets you ethernet
(obviously) and a SD card slot. So you could store the buzzer schedule file
on the SD card and be able to update it by simply taking it to a PC and
editing. That way it would still function when the network or command pc was
down.

The Arduino solution looks like the least expensive so far. Do you
