Yeah it's pathetic how cheap and cutthroat the PC world has become.

If the process is like that of my parent's two HP laptops there's a menu entry in Windows for creating the recovery DVDs. If the process hasn't changed then this is a one time process that can't be repeated so don't lose the discs after you make them. Otherwise you'll be looking at several 10s of dollars to buy a set of discs from HP or one the companies that specialize in providing them.
