I've done one or two screen replacements before.  It's not a lot of experience, 
but enough to know I can make it work.  I know the laptop isn't a great one, but 
the Mother-in-law doesn't use it for much and it's a whole lotta more computer 
than what I just got working for her as an interim (using Mint Debian, no 
less).  4GB of RAM plus a 500GB HDD and a "decent" processor is a large sight 
more impressive than the P4 2.53Ghz with maybe a GB and a half RAM and 60GB 
HDD.  If I can find her one for under a hundred, she'll probably fix it up.  
Internet browsing doesn't take much.
