[GRLUG] Saturday Social Summary

I was there 2-6PM, Matt Seely and a friend of his (I can't remember
your name--sorry!) were there fairly early. Matt showed the Ubuntu
10.04 beta, and we chatted about about programming languages, CMS and
hardware. (ATW really ought to have been there; Matt's on the brink of
diving either into Python or Ruby.) Matt's friend has to be the
computer geek equivalent of the star of one of those "flip this house"
reality TV shows; I imagine him going through hardware upgrades like
World 1-3 of SMB--constantly jumping higher and higher.

Pyeps came by a bit into it. Apparently he'd gotten misdirected by my
bad link last week, and initially went to the wrong Subway. We chatted
a bit about the SCO trial revival, the details of copyright, software
licenses and license compatibility, and he showed me some neat stuff
he'd been working on that uses cookies to store program code. (Before
you jump all over the security implications of that, consider that
it's not code being trusted by a server.) We chatted a bit about
Bounjour/Avahi/MDNS, machine languages and programming languages and
code bloat and where it comes from.

There was another guy there, whose name I also can't remember (I
really should have written this on Saturday, but I had some urgent
things crop up at home.), who uses Mandriva, Fedora and Win7.

Interesting times, interesting discussions. Hope to see more of you
this week. :)
